RAY CHEW & THE CREW - BIOGRAPHY

Ray Chew is a producer, musical director, arranger, musician and artist - with a musical career spanning over 25 years in recording, television and live performances. Ray has recorded with R&B's classic elite, such as Ashford & Simpson, Stephanie Mills, Diana Ross, Roberta Flack, Chaka Khan, Teddy Pendergrass, the late Donnie Hathaway and the late Grover Washington.

Many newer artists have also benefited from his experience in the music industry, including Alicia Keys, Missy Elliott, Debra Cox, Brian McKnight and Yolanda Adams - each having been guided under the tutelage of Ray Chew's meticulous ear at some point in their career. Ray has perfected the art of making his presence felt (and heard) behind the scenes as musical director, producer, writer, arranger and pianist.

Born and raised in New York City, Ray Chew selected his life path quite early. A diligent student of music throughout his youth, he has studied at New York's most prestigious institutes including The Juilliard Children's School, Mannes School of Music, Third Street Music School, The High School of Music and Art, and Manhattan School of Music. In addition to his extensive recording history, Ray's career spans television and film.

Ray got his start in television as a staff musician for CBS, NBC and Fox as arranger, writer and pianist for the long-running comedy classic, "Saturday Night Live" (during the "Eddie Murphy years"). In 1992, Chew joined the Apollo Theatre Foundation as Musical Director and within two years, became a household name as Musical Director for the national-syndicated television series, "It's Showtime at the Apollo." In addition, he acts as bandleader for the house band, "Ray Chew and the Crew," directing the musical interludes that can be heard alongside the applause and jeers of the "Amateur Night" live studio audience. Secure in executing multiple roles, Chew's duties range from preparing "Amateur Night" contestants for live performance to overseeing all musical entities for post-production.

Most recently, Ray's custom built studio - Vision House - has been the home to movie score recordings. Among them, he scored live string arrangements for Alicia Keys" contribution to the soundtrack for the Columbia Picture's release, "Ali". He is also currently composing the score for an independent film - yet untitled - to be released in 2005. R&B songstress Angie Stone was also blessed with Ray's live string arrangements for her upcoming sophomore release, "Mahogany Soul." Additionally, his arrangements can be heard throughout "Baby Boy," John Singleton's summer 2001 feature film.

Rounding out his professional accomplishments, Chew understands the importance of lending a charitable hand to his community. He shares his knowledge and experience with local students via school music programs and has volunteered his time with the New York City Housing Authority for over five years. In addition to his musical endeavors through his company RLC Productions, Ray also spearheads Chew Entertainment along with his wife, Vivian Scott Chew. Founded in 1998, Chew Entertainment's primary focus is matching the needs of the entertainment world with those of their stable of musicians and singers for hire. Chew Entertainment has provided outstanding musician services to The R&B Foundation, Broadway Cares/Equity Fights Aids, J Records, Universal Records and various non-profit organization, just to name a few.

Ray Chew, RLC Productions, Vision House and Chew Entertainment are based in Teaneck, NJ.
