THE PERSUADERS - BIOGRAPHY

Robert, Richard (The Poindexter Brothers), and Jacqueline Members-Poindexter (wife of Robert); who wrote and produced such hits as "Thin Line Between Love and Hate" and other classic songs for The Persuaders, also formed the group in 1965.

Their groundbreaking sound was not only an alternative to The Motown Sound but was as instrumental in laying the foundation for the R&B vocal groups of the sixties and seventies. The Internationals, The Implements as well as The O’Jays were prototypes of this unique 70's era sound. The Poindexters scored a repertoire of hits which included: "HYPNOTIZED" performed by Linda Jones; "ITS GOING TO TAKE A LOT" performed by The Manhattans; "SHE’S A FOX" performed by The Icemen, featuring Jimi Hendrix on guitar; "BABY, BABY, PLEASE" by Timothy Wilson; and "I’LL BE SWEETER TOMORROW" performed by The O’Jays.

While Tommy was in the hospital and in the presence of his wife, Verline Savage, to whom he left his estate and ownership of The Persuaders, he said to Richard, Alex and David, “You are the Persuaders, keep it going” and that's what we're doing. Tommy died a True Persuader and his presence is still among the Persuaders even to this day. Rest in Peace, Thomas “Tommy” Hill, Douglas "Smokey” Scott, John Tobias, Charles Stodghill and thanks to the entire pioneering family of The Persuaders.

The members today are; Richard Poindexter, who sang and played piano on the original recording of "Thin Line Between Love and Hate", Alexander Brown and David Turner who were the last to perform with Thomas “Tommy” Hill; who was a Persuader from 1972- until his untimely death November 16, 2002. Carlos Flores was chosen as the Fourth Persuader.
